NAACP/The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Scholarship program was established by UNCF and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a religious organization based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The scholarship program will provide need-based, renewable scholarships to Black/African American college sophomores enrolled full-time and attending an accredited four-year U.S. college or university beginning Fall 2022. 

Eligibility Requirements 

Applicants for the NAACP/The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Scholarship program must meet the following eligibility requirements: 

  1. Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. 

  1. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (“FAFSA”) form.  

  1. Have a demonstrated, unmet financial need as verified by their college or university.  

  1. Be enrolled full-time as a sophomore at any UNCF member institution, other accredited HBCU, or any accredited four-year U.S. based college or university. 

  2. Preference shall be given to candidates at HBCUs who are pursuing undergraduate studies 

Application Requirements 

For consideration, applicants must submit the online application complete with the following required application materials by the application due date of July 12, 2022:

  1. Current academic transcript. 

  1. One letter of recommendation, preferred. 

  1. A 500-word essay (statement) of career interest. 

NAACP/The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Scholarship Program Renewal Requirements

Selected students will receive a $5,000 need-based scholarship during the 2022-2023 school year. The Scholarship is renewable for two more years upon availability of funds and provided that students continue to meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Have a minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. 

  1. Have completed a FAFSA form for the renewal cycle. 

  1. Continue to demonstrate unmet financial need as verified by their college or university.  

  1. Continue studies in eligible majors and enroll full-time at any UNCF member institution, other HBCU, or a U.S. accredited four-year institution. 

 Letter of Recommendation/Reference 

A letter of recommendation is preferred to complete this application. The recommender should be a non-relative. The letter of recommendation can be completed through the online application system by the application due date of  July 12, 2022. Emailed letters of recommendation will not be accepted. 

Applicants should give the recommender ample time to complete the letter of recommendation by entering all recommender information (name and email address) as early as possible. The recommender will be sent automated instructions at the email address provided to submit the letter of recommendation in the Application System.  If your reference or recommender has challenges receiving the invitation letter via the system, please click the Instruction link on the right-hand side of the panel, under supporting documents of this page, and download and share the document with your recommender. The document provides additional instructions on how to write a letter of reference without an invitation code .

Applicants will receive an "Invite References" reminder, until a recommender is invited.
