Napa Valley Vintners Scholarship program was established by the Napa Valley Vintners, a California nonprofit corporation, in partnership with UNCF to provide scholarships to eligible applicants who are pursuing a degree related to the wine industry.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants for the Napa Valley Vintners Scholarship program program must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be Black/African American, Latinx, Indigenous/Native American, Asian American, or Pacific Islander;
- Possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale;
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") form and have a demonstrated unmet financial need as verified by their college or university.
- Be entering freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors or graduate students and enrolled full-time commencing fall 2022 at any one of the following community colleges or four-year colleges/universities that have an established wine related program of study. Also, the institutions have mentorship, internship and career placement programs in place to help students succeed in their careers beyond their studies.

- Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park
- California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo in San Luis Obispo
- California State University – Fresno

- Santa Rosa Junior College
- Napa Valley College in Napa
- Cuesta College
5. Pursue a degree in viticulture, enology, business administration, marketing, sales, finance, wine related hospitality, agriculture, wine making or a related major.
Application Requirements
For consideration, applicants must submit the online application complete with the following required application materials by the application due date of July 31, 2022.
- Current academic transcript.
- One letter of recommendation.
- a 500-word essay on personal statement of wine-related career interest.
Program Renewability Requirements
Selected students at the community college will receive up to $3,500 need-based Scholarship in the fall 2022. Also, selected students at the eligible four-year college/universities will receive up to $7,500 need-based Scholarship in the fall 2022.
The scholarship is renewable for the subsequent years based on availability of funds and upon meeting the following eligibility criteria:
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.70 on a 4.0 scale.
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") form and have a demonstrated unmet financial need as verified by their college or university.
- Continue to be enrolled full-time at any U.S. accredited institutions that have an established wine-related program of study.
- Provide a verification document of prior-year completion and participation of wine studies program requirements.
- Continue to pursue a degree in viticulture and enology, business administration, marketing, sales, finance, wine related hospitality, agriculture, wine making or a related major.
The maximum amount of eligibility for any recipient is four years. A given student will be eligible for up to three additional years, continually funded, after the initial award.
Letter of Recommendation/Reference
A letter of recommendation is required to complete this application. The recommender should be a non-relative. The letter of recommendation needs to be completed through the online application system by the application due date of July 31, 2022. Emailed letters of recommendation will not be accepted.
Applicants should give the recommender ample time to complete the letter of recommendation by entering all recommender information (name and email address) as early as possible. The recommender will be sent automated instructions at the email address provided to submit the letter of recommendation in the Application System. If the recommender did not receive the automated instructions, they can follow the attached instruction on the right hand panel of this page to write and submit the letter of recommendation
Applicants will receive an "Invite References" reminder, until a recommender is invited.
