The Richard L. Sykes Memorial Scholarship is being offered to award up to five (5) renewable NEED BASED scholarships of up to $5,000 for college freshmen (Class of 2022) beginning in the 2018-2019 academic year. Scholarships are renewable up to five (5) years of undergraduate enrollment.
Criteria for the scholarship is as follows:
-Student MUST have earned a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, and this must be demonstrated by the submission of a high school final transcript.
-Student MUST have completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and have a demonstrated need as verified by the students' institution.
-Student MUST reside in or be a permanent resident of the greater Los Angeles Area and live in one of the following zip codes: 90000-93888.
-Student MUST be an African-American college freshman in the fall of 2018, who has been accepted FULL TIME admittance at in any UNCF member institution, other HBCU, or an accredited four-year institution.
*Preference shall be given to the following candidates: students attending Historically Black College or Universities (HBCU's)-particularly UNCF member institution.
Application Process: Students will need to complete an online application for the program, complete with a letter of recommendation, a one-page personal essay of career interest, and a current transcript.
