Eli Lilly & Company Make Life Better Scholarship Program 2021

Developed in partnership with UNCF, the Eli Lilly Make Life Better Scholarship Program will provide need-based scholarships to college sophomores in Indiana who are studying STEM-related disciplines, with preference given to the following candidates: African Americans, Latinx, women, and minority women studying engineering. This $10,000 scholarship will be awarded for the 2021-2022 academic year, and is renewable for up to 2 years for recipients who continue to meet eligibility requirements.


Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be a US citizen or legal US resident.
  2. Be a resident of the state of Indiana.
  3. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Be enrolled full-time as a college sophomore for the 2021-2022 academic year at any UNCF member institution, HBCU, or other accredited 4-year institution.
  5. Be majoring in a STEM-related discipline. 
  6. Have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have a demonstrated unmet financial need, as verified by the applicant’s institution.

Application Must Include:

  1. An official or unofficial current academic transcript.
  2. A 1-page essay (see application for details).
  3. Two (2) letters of recommendation.

Letter of Recommendation Troubleshooting

Applicants will invite references during the application process. Applicants should also email the How to Submit a Letter of Recommendation document (download link on the right of this page) to each of their references for troubleshooting and guidance. Applications with only one (1) letter of recommendation will not be considered. Emailed letters of recommendation to UNCF will not be accepted at any time.
