Caring for others is an important part of the culture at TJX. Throughout our more than four decades, we have worked hard to be a good corporate citizen and bring value to people’s lives – not just in our stores, but in our communities, where we work to enrich the lives of others.

Administered by UNCF, the TJX Scholarship Program seeks to make a lasting impact in young people’s lives by offering scholarships based on financial need.

Applicants must identify as Black or African American, and be in good academic and personal standing, who are enrolled in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited, U.S. based two-year or four-year non-profit college or university for the entire 2021 - 2022 academic year.

Scholarship recipients will earn up to $10,000 for undergraduate study.
*Preference shall be given to students attending an HBCU.


Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be African American/Black
  2. Have a required minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (“FAFSA”) form.
  5. Have a demonstrated, unmet financial need as verified by their college or university.
  6. Be enrolled as a full-time, associate or bachelor’s degree seeking student of any classification at any accredited, U.S. based two-year or four-year non-profit college or university.
  7. Be in good academic and personal standing.


Application Requirements:

  1. Submit one letter of recommendation from a non-relative.
  2. A personal statement of 500 – 750 words responding to the following prompt: “Tell us about your personal and professional goals. What are your plans, hopes and aspirations for the change you would like to make in your world and/or in your chosen field? How will this scholarship help you to meet them?”
  3. An official or unofficial current academic transcript.
  4. A headshot (Be sure to send one that gives a full view of your face with a pleasant expression. Don’t send a photo of yourself wearing a hat or sunglasses, and don’t send a picture with other people in it.)

Letter of Recommendation Guidance

One letter of recommendation (LOR) is required to complete this application. The recommender must be a non-relative. The LOR must be made through the online Applicant System and must be received by the application due date. Emailed LORs will not be accepted.

*Applicants should give the recommender ample time to complete the LOR by entering all recommender information (name and email) as early as possible. The recommender will be sent automated instructions at the email address provided to submit the LOR in the Applicant System. Applicants will receive "Invite References" reminders until a recommender is invited.

Applicants who have submitted complete applications will be notified of scholarship decisions within 8 weeks after the application closing date.
